Dr. Tonbarapagha Kingdom

Dr. Tonbara’ Kingdom, who attended Tin – can Island High School, Tolu Complex, Lagos (1984 – 1989) and holds a first - class Bachelor of Science degree in Fisheries, from the Rivers State University of Science and Technology Port Harcourt, started his higher education (1991 – 1993) in the premier fisheries institution in Nigeria (the Federal College of Fisheries and Marine Technology, Lagos), graduated with Doctorate degree in Hydrobiology/Fisheries from the Department of Animal and Environmental Biology, University of Port Harcourt in 2012. He was appointed a Graduate Assistant in 2005, and rose to his present rank of Reader (Associate Professor) in the Department of Fisheries and Aquatic Studies, Niger Delta University, Wilberforce Island, Bayelsa State, where he is also serving as the Acting Director, Students’ Industrial Working Experience Scheme (SIWES). His research interest range from Fish Environmental Survey to Fisheries Biology and Management, with emphasis on shellfish and fishing gear studies. He was a 2018 KOP-NFP Fellow for Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries at Wageningen Centre for Development Innovation, Netherlands. He has several publications to his credit and has been involved in several consultancy projects in Niger Delta. He was the Project Coordinator, Maximizing Agricultural Revenue in Key Enterprises and Targeted Sites (MARKETS II) Project, funded by USAID, which trained 3, 000 fish farmers in Edo and Delta States, between September 2015 to May 2017. He is currently the Bayelsa State Auditor and National Vice President (Training and Research) of the Fisheries Society of Nigeria (FISON), as well as a member of Nigerian Environmental Society (NES) and Agricultural Society of Nigeria (ASN). He is married to Mrs Edith Ebimoboere Kingdom (an Agricultural Economist) and blessed with four children, Dengimoere, Zuobuomo-owei, Powei and Ayapere. His hobbies include cooking, travelling, reading and playing soccer.
