A passionate gender equality advocate and fisheries subject matter specialist, Justina Ehisieme Balogun was born into the family of Late Mr. and Mrs. George Ehondor on 14th April 1968. Justina, as she is popularly called by family, friends and acquaintances, is a thoroughbred Lagosian! She was born in Lagos, married a Lagosian and has virtually lived all her life in Lagos.

Justina Balogun began her early education at Saint Mary’s Convent School, Lagos in 1974 and completed primary school 1979. In 1980, she proceeded to the prestigious Holy Child College, Obalende, Lagos, from where she passed out in flying colours to obtain the West African School Certificate in 1985.

With a strong conviction that she cannot fulfill her dream in life with only School Certificate, Justina sought and got admitted to the Lagos State University, Ojo, in 1988 from where she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Fisheries Science (B.Sc. Fisheries) in 1992. She further her studies by obtaining a Masters Degree in Fisheries (M.Sc.) specializing in Aquaculture and Nutrition at the same University in 2002. To hone her business and managerial skills in preparation for the pursuit of a career after her second degree, Justina further proceeds to have a Masters Degree in Business Administration Marketing Management in1997.

Equipped with sufficient qualification, Mrs. Justina Balogun kick-started her working career at the Fisheries Department of Dangote Group of Companies from where she later gained employment with the Lagos State Government in 2000. She was posted to the Fisheries Department of the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture as Fisheries Officer from where she has since risen to the post of Chief Fisheries Officer. She was later deployed to the Lagos State Agricultural Development Authority (LSADA) Oko-Oba, Agege as Subject Matter Specialist, Women In Agriculture (WIA). She is currently the Head of Women in Agriculture and Nutrition sub-component at LSADA.

She has been trained and empowered in various skills in Agriculture, Nutrition and Health, Processing Fisheries and Gender Equality. She is an individual with excellent interpersonal relations skill coupled with mobilization and leadership prowess with high initiative, creativity and versatility. She is a dynamic and self motivated individual, possess of good organizational skills with strong analytical and communication skills.
She is a member of the Third World Organization for women in science, Strada Costeira, Italy (TWOWS). An active member of Fisheries Society of Nigeria at both State and National level, she is the National Treasurer of Fisheries Society of Nigeria.

She is a devoted Christian and a Minister of God. Her quest to serve God made her to proceed to Redeemer’s Bible College to obtain Post-Graduate in Theology in the year 1998. Justina who enjoys reading is married to Mr. Olusola Balogun and they are blessed with children.
