Dr (Mrs.) Ebinimi Joe Ansa is an Assistant Director (Research) at the African Regional Aquaculture Centre (ARAC) of the Nigerian Institute of Oceanography and Marine Research (NIOMR). Dr Ansa obtained a B.Sc. in Zoology from the University of Port Harcourt in 1989, M.Sc. Zoology from the University of Lagos in 1992 and a doctorate degree (Ph. D) in Fisheries biology/Hydrobiology from University of Port Harcourt in January, 2006. Dr Ansa also went on professional training to sharpen her skills in aquaculture and fisheries management, research, development, mentoring, environmental leadership at various institutions across Africa, Europe, United States of America and Asia.
Due to her efforts in the advancement of sustainable aquaculture development in the Niger Delta region, she was appointed Senior Special Assistant, Aquaculture to the Governor of Bayelsa State and is a Co-coordinator of the Aquaculture Working Group of the African Fisheries Reform Mechanism of the African Union – InterAfrican Bureau for Animal Resources (AU-IBAR). Dr Ansa is an aquaculture and fisheries management expert and seeks solutions to mitigate the problems attributed to climate change and pollution effects on aquatic life through culture of selected species of migratory freshwater prawns, sedentary mangrove oyster, catfish and tilapia. She has published scholarly articles in several peer reviewed journals and presented papers at local and international conferences. Her passion for lecturing also led her to take an appointment as Adjunct Senior Lecturer at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology where she is involved in training and supervision of students at both undergraduate and post graduate levels.
Dr Ansa has received awards/honours including the Nuffic Fellowship of the Netherlands Fellowship Programme (NFP) and is a post-doctoral Fellow of the esteemed African Women in Agricultural Research and Development (AWARD) sponsored by USAID and Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. She has also been meritoriously honoured with awards of appreciation and distinguished service by the Fisheries Society of Nigeria for her commitment to Fisheries Development in Nigeria. Dr Ansa is a professional member of Fisheries Society of Nigeria and World Aquaculture Society. She is the current National Editor of the Fisheries Society of Nigeria, the publishers of Nigerian Journal of Fisheries and an Editorial Board Member of the Continental Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Science.
Her hobbies include travelling and photography. She is married to Dr Joseph Etim O. Ansa, an Agricultural Science lecturer and they are blessed with five lovely children.
